Per-category settings

Categories carry their own copies of many global options. The per-category value, when set, beats the global default. A blank per-category value falls back to the global default. This page lists every per-category setting and where the global default is documented.

File policy

Allow multi-file versions	bool	n/a	When on, an author may attach more than one file per version. When off, exactly one file per version.
Maximum files per version	int	n/a	Cap on the number of files per version when multi-file is allowed. Range 1 to 1000.

The dangerous extension blocklist (set globally) overrides any per-category allow list.

Approval and visibility

Setting	Default	What it does
Accept new downloads	On	When off, the upload form is hidden.
Require approval	Off	When on, new and edited downloads enter the approval queue. Users with Bypass approval skip the queue.
Enable versioning	On	When off, downloads in this category have a single fixed file.
Show on overview	On	Whether the category appears in the top-level /downloads/ overview.

Throttling

A blank value uses the global default. A value of 0 means "no limit" only when the global is also 0. Otherwise treat 0 explicitly as "disable for this category".

External URLs

The external URL mode allows: Inherit, Disabled, Cache only, Link only, Cache, Link. Set to "Inherit" to use the global default. The global value "Disabled" overrides every category, regardless of the per-category setting.

Previews

The following toggles default to off:

• Text previews
• Image previews
• Audio previews
• Video previews
• PDF previews
• Archive previews

When a toggle is on, viewers with the View previews permission can open the matching file type in-browser. Size caps are global; see general options.

Tagging and teams

Setting	Default	What it does
Minimum tags	0	Minimum number of tags an author must apply at upload.
Allow teams	Off	Whether teams (co-owners) are allowed in this category.
Maximum team members	0	Cap on co-owners per download. Use 0 for no limit. Range 0 to 1000.

SEO

Setting	What it does
Open Graph title	Open Graph title for the category page. Up to 150 characters.
Meta title	HTML page title for the category page. Falls back to the category title. Up to 150 characters.
Meta description	Meta description. Up to 300 characters.
Exclude from sitemap	When on, the category and its downloads are omitted from the sitemap.
Exclude from search index	When on, the category's downloads are not indexed by site search.

Content terms

Setting	What it does
Content term	Singular noun for "download" in this category. Up to 50 characters.
Content term plural	Plural noun. Up to 50 characters.

If either is blank, the category falls back to the standard "download" / "downloads" wording.

Criteria gate behaviour

Setting	Default	What it does
On criteria failure	Show locked	What viewers who fail a criteria gate see. Pick "Hide" to remove the download from listings entirely, or "Show locked" to show it with a locked indicator.
